Highlight
Despite Spanish intellectuals attacking its inimitable design principles, Casa Milà still strongly stands as Antoni Gaudí’s greatest architectural contribution, and perhaps among the most stellar attractions in Barcelona.
More Info
Built between 1906 and 1910, Casa Milà is perhaps Antoni Gaudí's most controversial—and maybe the least conformist—architectural creation. Also called the La Pedrera or the "stone quarry," it is Gaudí's last work before fully focusing his energies on the Sagrada Familia. Its elaborate iron-work balconies, wave-resembling walls (there are no straight walls inside), and "witch-scarer" chimneys, however, did not earn favorable response from the intellectuals of its time; it was viewed as a merely rebellious affair. This building, which once sheltered a certain Milà family on the ground floor, stands as an unencompassed structure where the breadth of human artistry is concerned.
